Permalink | when it all comes together and never say never!
Well it's been a bit since my last writings.. I have returned from 8 days in Buffalo, NY and must say every part of it was a surprise... I went there to produce an ep for a brilliant band from Dublin, Ireland "STAND" and I must say, wow every star aligned... See I worked with them 7 years ago and I thought that when we ended it we were both younger, brasher and knew it all.. Never really heard from them again and they went onto years of roadwork, writing and more recording.. About 6 months ago I get an email from there new manager "Dan" asking me to come see them at a local show and I did.. on that very day of the show, my world got turned upside down and I forced myself to go, saw them , spoke w/ them and told Dan, they are quite possibly one of the best live bands around and he proceeded to ask me if I would be up to working with them.. talk about a weird day.. the heartache continued, more writing, producing and then more from talks w/ Dan.. I told him I would love to do it but I would have to be able to really get inside them and there songs.. So the process of bouncing songs, many Skype chats, getting them to open up and fast forward till today.... herein lies the "never say never" part!!
What happened @ the studio was amazing, inspiring, fun and more goosebumps than one could imagine.. See we were both ready for what was happening, I arrived on Sunday 21st@ 2:00 and we were up and recording by 5:00(after my first official Buffalo Wings!" and proceeded to complete the first song by 11:00 and that included doing the pre pro for the song! well what was supposed to be a 5/6 song ep ended up becoming a whole record 10 songs after the 8 days, each day we started a song and sometimes 2 and rearranged, rehearsed and finished them.. like the way my heroes used to do them!
I am so proud of these sessions, the band, engineers and all that transpired and can't wait to share them w/ everyone and all of you "STAND" fans or not be prepared for an amzing schock!
oh and when I returned the 6 month ago heartache turned to a smile!
now back to the matters at hand here and more to come from TMC real soon...
best,
MS
